Strange Bass Gallery 11

December is upon us. The year is winding down, but the basses aren’t gaining in normalcy. Rearranging letters from random DC comics suggests that Stig Pedersen is actually Sting from Bizarroworld.

Anyway. Duck!

Ok, my pretties. One of these might be the precious. Or, it might be in one of these older troves:

You know how some people complain about extended-range basses having too many strings? Well, going in a different direction, this’ll learn ’em.

That thing needs 12 strings, BTW.

Of course, you know there’s more:

Sometimes, when something follows a kid home and Mommy gets asked if they can keep it, she says “No”.

Here are the bottom dwellers that haunted my sleep since last time. This is why I’m awake at these odd hours. Other fine specimens are indexed here: Strange Bass Gallery

Strange Bass Gallery 2

Continuing on with what I started continuing on a week ago, here are the bass oddities from around the internet that I subjected my eyes to this week. Some are beautiful. Some have only one string. Others have Gene Simmons’ hand in their design.

The original gallery from 2011 can be found here: Strange Bass Gallery. It also serves as an index to the rest of the entries, as I add them.

But wait – there’s more!

Strange Bass Gallery 1

The internet is full of pics of weird-looking, or as some would say, exotic, basses. Back in 2011, I made a page called Strange Bass Gallery in which I planned to display the ones I came across. There’s a lot of creativity in bass design, although some are really from outer space.

I wanted to have a separate section on the blog with its own posts with these funny-looking roosters, but WordPress doesn’t seem to allow more than a single “set” of blog posts. So, I made a single page and tried to consolidate everything on it.

Its a pain in the butt to update that page with pictures in an orderly fashion, and there are still a lot of unusual basses out there. So, I’ve decided that after 4 years, I’ll start adding in pics of these unique creations again, on the main blog, and just provide links to the posts on the original page – like an index.

Here are some that I found this week:

Strange Bass Gallery

So, I added a small gallery of interesting and unusual basses that I’ve come across on the internet. I’m sure that this will only grow as I’m exposed to more incomprehensible, low-frequency horror. Yes, Stig Pedersen is in it, as is Jean Baudin. A link to the gallery is at the top-right of this blog. Its called:

Strange Bass Gallery!

I only wish that I could have made it a blog/article page like this main one so I could have more discrete control of the entries and not have to update the entire page when adding content.

Rocket Bass

Stig Pedersen makes his own basses. They’re all weird. Here’s a picture of another of his creations, scoured from somewhere on the internet. There’s a fun thread about strange basses on the Talkbass forums.

[edit 10.18.2011] My Strange Bass Gallery has images of more of Stig’s basses, as well as other interesting ones from around the internet.

Bass Ackwards

This is a picture of a weird bass I came across on the internet.

Its like they made it backwards and turned the head into the body and the body into the head; then they did some voodoo head-shrinking magic on the new body-head. And it only has two strings. I imagine that its probably not too much fun to balance, but it sure leaves an impression. 😉

[edit 5/4/2011] Learned this on the Talkbass forums: That weird bass belongs to Stig Pedersen from Danish rock band D-A-D. Stig designs his own basses with only 2 or 3 strings because he only uses the E and the A strings when he plays!

[edit 10.18.2011] My Strange Bass Gallery has images of more of Stig’s basses, as well as other interesting ones from around the internet.
